"There is absolutely no substitute for the best. Good food cannot be made of inferior ingredients masked with high flavor. It is true thrift to use the best ingredients available and to waste nothing." - James Beard
Poppy’s Bagels & More opened in Charlotte in 2010. It is a small family business owned by Ronnie Rippner and his parents Leslie aka “Poppy” and Georgeana. After relocating to Charlotte from New York, Ronnie missed the bagels from his hometown. He felt this sentiment was shared by many of his friends and neighbors, so he sought to create the best bagel he could south of the Mason Dixon Line. All the bagels are made fresh at Poppy’s in the traditional kettle boiled and baked method. They have been much appreciated by the Charlotte community and well received in the local press.
“With their shiny, crackly crust and chewy interior, the bagels at Poppy’s are just right.” Kathleen Purvis, Charlotte Observer
“Deliciously plump, soft on the inside and crispy on the edges, these bagels make you forget you’re in Charlotte.” Stephanie, Charlotte Food Talk
